Be like the Flowing River - Manuel Bandeira

Be like the flowing river,
Silent in the night.
Be not afraid of the dark.
If there are stars in the sky, reflect them back.
If there are clouds in the sky,
Remember, clouds, like the river, are water.
So, gladly reflect them too,
In your own tranquil depths.

A short poem from the beginning of the book 'Like the Flowing River' written by Paulo Coelho.
The poem was originally written by  Manuel Bandeira.

It is a metaphor, closest to the meaning of life stating that a river never passes the same path twice. We encounter different exposure of life every day. Being someone new each day, implementing actions entirely disparate from the previous day. It's a phase of existence from the time of origin i.e, birth to our end i.e, death. Life is uncertain of what happens every second but you being the captain of your own ship, can decide where you wish to sail.

No matter what obstacles a river could pass, water still continues to flow. Likewise, we should keep going ahead in life no matter what stops us, let it be a stone or a whale. We cannot simply walk away or gambol the lane that cannot be avoided. It's like trying to drive a car with no wheels. You need to fix the wheel in order to keep yourself moving forward.

Fear has never been a solution in our life. In the dark, the sky manifest millions of charming diamonds that twinkle, which are electromagnetic radiation we get from the sun. The moon and the stars shine through one source of light, i.e the sun. The modest amount of light in the sky could allow us to see the surrounding at night. There is a unique beauty in every situation we confront.

Most of us love watching the sunset and how truly amazing the sky is with the warm sensation of colors. What if massive clouds hid all those beauties away? Is it going to be the same every day? No. Clouds are like water flowing in the river. They prolong moving on and are never persistent. Behind the cloud repose the same sky that gave us a pleasant rush of love, regardless of where we are.

The poem simply ends by telling us to be as calm as the river and keep going with the flow without any flaws. Life is full of surprises and hopes.

Like a lake of tranquil blue water reflecting a tranquil blue sky.

Poems always got my high heels on for the cause of its inner depth of meaning, like getting hit by a truck of emotions. Those early practices we got at school, studying literature was like encrypting codes for a program. Researching each and every word used in the context and digging the simplified form of emotions explained.

I simply enjoy the complicated side of life.

Cheers !
